I bought this book, on a summer day when I went to Target, and there was a really good sale. I thought the book's cover seemed interesting, becuase it had the picture of a young girl, and the title read Pollyanna. The book is basically about a young orphaned girl, named Pollyanna, who has to stay with her stern, wealthy, and single Aunt Polly/5(12). Pollyanna by Porter, Eleanor H. and a great selection of related books, art and collectibles available now at

The book had a huge impact when it first came out, and it continues to be surprisingly popular; typically it never falls out of print, and a number of sequels have even been written to continue Pollyanna's story. The book is widely regarded by many people to be a classic of American children's literature, and it has certainly had a profound. Pollyanna may get some help in the matter of her aunt by Mayor Warren's nephew, Dr. Edmond Chilton (Richard Egan), a former resident who now lives in Baltimore, who is back in town for the first time in five years on a vacation, and who was once Polly's beau.

Pollyanna is a best-selling novel by Eleanor H. Porter that is now considered a classic of children's book was such a success that Porter soon produced a sequel, Pollyanna Grows Up (ISBN ).

The novel's success brought the term "Pollyanna" (along with the adjective "pollyannaish" and the noun "Pollyannaism") into the language to describe someone who seems Cited by: 1.

Pollyanna is an interesting book. It was published only four years after Anne of Green Gables, and both stories have a similar storyline: a plucky, young girl of eleven or so is orphaned and has nowhere to Pollyanna and Anne struggle with their appearance and both are received in a lackluster way, by new caregivers who aren't sure they really want them.4/5(K).

Pollyanna Grows Up is the second Pollyanna book, but the last one written by Eleanor Porter. It's a servicable read, but a lot of the charm of the first book is lost in this one.

The plot is split in two parts. The first half of the book is still about young Pollyanna, not even a year after her accident and recovery in the first book/5().

Pollyanna tries so hard to use her unfailing optimism and bring her aunt back to happiness, but that is a tall order. In the story are old friends, like Jimmy Bean, and new friends.

What made the book so wonderful, though, was seeing Pollyanna struggling with her first love. I love these books and am sad there are only these s: Pollyanna is able to weather these hardships because her father gave her a gift years before: the "glad game," and by playing it and teaching it to her new neighbors, Pollyanna proceeds to set the town to rights -- couples reunite, an orphan finds a home, the town minister begins to preach love rather than vengeance, and gladness reigns.

Pollyanna Whittier died two weeks ago, leaving one child, a girl eleven years old. He left practically nothing else save a few books; for, as you doubtless know, he was the pastor of this small mission church, and had a very meagre salary.

‘I believe he was your deceased sister’s husband, but he. Pollyanna is an inspiring and delightful classic story for people of all ages. It teaches a reader to look at life in a positive way, and never give up.

The readers may even find themselves playing the ‘glad game’ for, as the people Pollyanna meets find out, the game is highly contagious. Read Pollyanna online by Eleanor H. Porter atthe free online library full of thousands of classic books.

Pollyanna Grows Up is a children's novel by Eleanor H. Porter. It is the first of many sequels to Porter's best-selling Pollyanna (), but is the only one written by Porter herself; the numerous later additions to the Pollyanna franchise were the work of other s:   Only a brief glance did Pollyanna give about her; then, with a confused vision in her eyes of crimson draperies, book-lined walls, a littered floor, an untidy desk, innumerable closed doors (any one of which might conceal a skeleton), and everywhere dust, dust, dust, she fled back through the hall to the great carved door, still half open as.
